Light Jig gives Frankel weekend sweep

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Bobby Frankel's team of stakes-winning older turf fillies and mares added another member Sunday when Light Jig won her first stakes in the $200,000 at Hollywood Park.

Light Jig, 4, was ridden by Alex Solis. Frankel and Solis swept the weekend stakes at Hollywood Park. Saturday, they teamed to win the Cinema Breeders' Cup Handicap with Greek Sun.

Light Jig joins Etoile Montante, Intercontinental, and Megahertz as top older turf mares in Frankel's stable.

Yoursmineours game in Lorelei win

Bossier City, La. - Yoursmineours outdueled Josie G. in a spirited pace battle Sunday afternoon to win the $50,000 Lorelei Stakes at Louisiana Downs.

Don Pettinger set a lively pace on board Yoursmineours ($4.60) while holding a narrow advantage closest to the rail. After a half in :47.11 and three quarters in 1:12.45, he opened up a slightly larger lead when straightened for home then held off one final challenge from the runner up to prevail by three quarters of a length in a time of 1:46.96 over a drying out strip labeled as good.

Lucky Tec best in Niagara Falls

TORONTO, Ontario - Lucky Tec became the first double stakes winner of the Fort Erie meeting on Sunday, outfooting 2-5 favorite Rare Friends to score by 3 1/2 lengths in the $60,000, six-furlong .

Owned by Railbird Stable and trained by Daryl Ezra, Lucky Tec had captured the five-furlong Expedite Plus in his last start here June 6. Martin Ramirez was aboard for both wins.

Lucky Tec, racing as part of an entry with Ashagio, returned $6.30 as the second choice in the field of five Canadian-bred older males.

Cherish Destiny wins Dearly Precious via dq

Cherish Destiny and Joe Bravo gallop back after crossing the wire second in the Dearly Precious Stakes at Monmouth on Sunday. The filly got the win after the stewards disqualified Schedule for drifting out through the lane.

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Cherish Destiny won the $60,000 for 3-year-old fillies on a disqualification Sunday at Monmouth Park.

The pacesetting Schedule drifted out badly in the lane. She finished first under the wire while carrying out runnerup Cherish Destiny.

Chuckie Lopez, Schedule's rider, had his hands full trying to maintain a straight path.

"She always seems to drift a little bit on me," said Lopez. "There wasn't much I could do. I was just trying to ride her hard and keep her straight. It's just a bad habit she has."

It turned into an expensive habit.

Soaring Free coasts in Highlander Handicap

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Soaring Free ($2.90) shook loose on the lead and then coasted to an easy victory in the Grade 3, $219,000 , one of two supporting stakes on Sunday's Queen's Plate card at Woodbine.

Soaring Free set relatively slow fractions of :22.73 seconds and :45.62 in the six-furlong turf dash. He opened up a daylight lead at the eighth pole, and went on to prevail by 2 1/4 lengths under Todd Kabel.

Pick six carryover reaches $177,552

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - A one-day carryover of $177,552 from Saturday should result in a pool of more than $1 million on Sunday at Hollywood Park.

The pick six covers the fourth through ninth race on a program that begins at 1:20 p.m. There are no late scratches in Sunday's pick six races, which includes three turf races and three sprints on the main track.

The first pick six race, the fourth on the program, is a turf sprint for $55,000 to $62,500 claimers. In a field of seven, Boston Common is 9-5 on the morning-line, but must beat the gritty 9-year-old Full Moon Madness.

Stellar Jayne outduels Ashado

Stellar Jayne, under Robby Albarado, draws off to win the Mother Goose. It's the sixth time trainer D. Wayne Lukas has won the Grade 1 race.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Even as good as his filly, Stellar Jayne, was traveling in Saturday's Grade 1 , Robby Albarado looked over at who was alongside him around the far turn at Belmont Park and saw the imposing figures of Ashado and John Velazquez.

"At that point I'm figuring she's just going to blow my doors away at any time,'' Albarado said. "When Johnny squeezed her and he didn't get by me that instilled a little bit of confidence in her and in me."

Fleeta Dif upsets Leslie's Love

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Fleeta Dif overtook 3-5 favorite Leslie's Love through the stretch for a half-length win in the $50,000 Miller Lite Stakes at Lone Star Park on Saturday. Leslie's Love finished second, 2 1/2 lengths clear of Big Score.

The race was moved from the turf to a sloppy main track following heavy rains in the area.

Shaconage strong in stretch

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - As trainer Mitch Shirota entered the Churchill Downs winner's circle following the 23rd running of the Locust Grove Handicap, several friends playfully bowed down to honor Shirota for winning the Grade 3 race in stakes-record time with Shaconage.

"Aw, she should have won the last one, too," said Shirota, playing right along.
