Classic Campaign gets up by nose

STICKNEY, Ill. - Richard Migliore and Classic Campaign barely won the Robert F. Carey Memorial Handicap, and that may be the only way to do it with this horse.

Migliore had never ridden Classic Campaign before Saturday, but he had watched tape, and his impression of Classic Campaign was confirmed by Keith Allen, assistant to Classic Campaign's trainer, Bill Mott.

"They told me not to make the lead too early, because as soon as he hits the front, he thinks he's done," said Migliore.

Danzon easily adapts to new surface

FLORENCE, Ky. - The line of thinking that grass specialists tend to fare well on Polytrack proved correct in emphatic fashion when Danzon cruised to a five-length triumph in the Grade 3, $160,000 Kentucky Cup Distaff, the richest of the four supporting stakes on the 14th annual Kentucky Cup card Saturday at Turfway Park.

With Julien Leparoux riding for trainer Patrick Biancone, Danzon lagged early before angling out for the drive, and after collaring Delicate Dynamite approaching the eighth pole, the 4-year-old Royal Academy filly glided away to an easy score.
