A dozen join Sahadi's stable

ARCADIA, Calif. - Jenine Sahadi doubled the size of her stable Monday when she took over 12 horses formerly trained by Patrick Biancone. Monashee making herself at home

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Monashee, who has been utterly dominant at Hastings this season and also been successful in two trips to Northlands Park, now will be looking to showcase her talents at Woodbine.

A Kentucky-bred 5-year-old owned by Canmor Farm and trained by Tracy McCarthy, Monashee is here for the $175,000 Maple Leaf, a 1 1/4-mile race for fillies and mares on Nov. 10.

"She's settling in very nicely," said McCarthy, who also will be making her Woodbine debut.

"She's a little quirky. She's a pretty demanding horse. But, she loves the environment here."

Allowance draws trio of stakes winners

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sometimes a third-level allowance will draw a horse with a stakes win, and every now and then, one enters such a race with a couple of stakes victories. But they do not often show up as four-time stakes winners, not in a traditional third-level allowance, anyway.

An exception occurs Wednesday in the featured ninth race at Churchill Downs, when four-time stakes winner Somethinaboutbetty starts as the likely favorite in a $55,000 third-level allowance.

Different Cup experiences for Hollendorfer, Gilchrist

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Trainers Jerry Hollendorfer and Greg Gilchrist had different kinds of disappointments at the Breeders' Cup.

The Hollendorfer-trained Hystericalady ran gamely but finished a close second in the Distaff, while the Gilchrist-trained Smokey Stover barely ran a step in the Sprint. Both runners came out of their races well and were scheduled to fly home to Northern California this week.

According to Hollendorfer, early plans are for Hystericalady to run again next year.
