Aqueduct cancels Saturday card

Saturday's nine-race card at Aqueduct was canceled before it began as the jockeys refused to ride, citing the threat of dangerous wind gusts.

About an hour before the card began, the winds were 25 to 30 miles per hour with gusts occasionally surpassing 40 miles per hour. The forecast called for potentially stronger gusts later in the afternoon.

Midnight Lute targets longer races

ARCADIA, Calif. - Midnight Lute, the winner of the Breeders' Cup Sprint at Monmouth Park on Oct. 27, will not be starting in sprints for the foreseeable future.

Trainer Bob Baffert said on Friday that Midnight Lute is on course for the $300,000 Cigar Mile at Aqueduct on Nov. 24 and that the $6 million Dubai World Cup at 1 1/4 miles on March 29 has become a possible target in 2008.

Baffert said that Midnight Lute has trained well in recent days, making the Cigar Mile a likely destination for the 4-year-old colt, who is owned by Mike Pegram, Carl Watson, and Paul Weitman.

Etched going to Dubai for winter

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - As expected, the talented juvenile colt Etched, winner of the Grade 3 Nashua Stakes here on Oct. 28, will be shipped to Dubai in early December to prepare for his 3-year-old season.

Big purse hikes starting next year

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Hastings announced Thursday that it will raise its purses in 2008 back to their level in 2006. It represents a 25 percent increase over the purses paid out this year.

Reporting for Duty targets Zia Derby

Reporting for Duty, second to Going Ballistic in the Oklahoma Derb, is heading west. Trainer Steve Asmussen said the colt is being pointed for the $100,000 Zia Park Derby. The 1 1/16-mile race will be held at Zia Park in Hobbs, N.M. on Dec. 8.

Reporting for Duty closed from 10 lengths back in the Oklahoma Derby, which was his first start since June. He earned a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 96.

"It was a very good race, arguably his best race yet," said Asmussen.

Biancone's horses being relocated

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Kentucky Horse Racing Authority has received official notification from legal representatives of Patrick Biancone in regard to how the suspended trainer's large stable of horses is being dispersed to various other trainers and farms.

From a list of 52 horses, 21 are being sent to private farms to be bred, sold, rested, or retired. Of the remaining 31 horses, it was announced earlier this week that Jenine Sahadi will assume the training of 12, based in Southern California, including Trick's Pic, Strike Out, and Time Squared.

Very Professional keeps on winning

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Very Professional, indeed.

Looking fresh and obviously fit at the age of 9, Very Professional rattled off his fourth straight win when entered for an $11,500 claiming price here Thursday afternoon.

Making his 15th start in 2007, Very Professional won by a comfortable two lengths and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 84, which was his best of the season.

Miss Macy Sue done for year

STICKNEY, Ill. - Miss Macy Sue shipped late last month from Hawthorne to Monmouth Park, where she finished a good third in the inaugural Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. However, her return trip from New Jersey went to Kentucky, rather than back to Chicago, and Miss Macy Sue won't race again until next season, her trainer, Kelly Von Hemel, said Friday morning.

"Everything's good with her," Von Hemel said. "She came out of the race great. We'll give her some time off and get her ready for next year."

Dancing Allstar eyes a Sovereign

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - According to trainer Terry Jordan, Dancing Allstar came out of her easy win in last Saturday's $109,217 Fantasy Stakes in excellent shape and could be headed to Woodbine to run in the $125,000 Glorious Song Stakes on Nov. 18. Ridden by Mario Gutierrez, Dancing Allstar went right to the front and was in hand the whole race. She paid $2.10 to win.

"It was a pretty easy race on her," said Jordan. "If I can find a flight for her, we're going to run her one more time this year."
