Meadowlands: Presious Passion wins

Presious Passion and trainer Mary Hartmann both got their first graded victories Friday night in the $150,000 Cliff Hanger Stakes at the Meadowlands Racetrack.

Presious Passion rallied from sixth to beat Touched by Madness by one length, with Carnera third. The 4-year-old gelding paid $23.40 to win as part of an entry with Tune of the Spirit, who set the pace and finished last in the seven-horse field in the Grade 3 race.

The time was 1:41.48 for the 1 1/16 miles on the firm turf course.

Woodbine: Dance to My Tune hangs on

Dance to My Tune ($23.10) held off Serenading in the final strides to notch her first stakes win in the $160,900 La Lorgnette at Woodbine.

Coy Coyote, the favored Maryland shipper, set fast fractions in the 1 1/16-mile route, while being pressed by Lyrically. Dance to My Tune stalked in third before circling three wide into contention on the far turn.

Delaware: Bsharpsonata by seven

Bsharpsonata rolled to a seven-length victory in the $56,260 Irish Sonnet Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Delaware Park.

The field of eight scratched down to only four for the one-mile race,

Bsharpsonata ($9.20) stalked the early pace set by Erin's Golden Star before making a three-wide move on the final turn. A daughter of Pulpit, Bsharpsonata won for fun with Eric Camacho aboard for trainer Timothy Salzman.

Turfway Park: $32.40 upsetter

It was hard to fault Exciting Justice's record as the 3-year-old filly stepped up into her first stakes race in the $75,000 Weekend Delight for fillies and mares at Turfway Park.

She came in with 2 wins and 1 second in 4 starts, and she came out a winner. The only surprise, perhaps, was her payoff, $32.40.

Stay Close wins Schapiro at Laurel by nose

Trainer Michael Zwiesler found the right spot for Stay Close.

Zwiesler scratched the 5-year-old gelding from the $200,000 Larry Riviello President’s Cup at Philadelphia Park last week in favor of the $100,000 John Schapiro Memorial Handicap Saturday at Laurel.

Stay Close ($6.80) proved the decision right with a game nose victory over the pacesetting Jungle Fighter with Bastille third. The time was 1:46.41 for the 1 1/8 miles on the firm course.

Going Ballistic runs down Grasshopper

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Going Ballistic picked up the biggest victory of his career Saturday when he ran down 1-5 favorite Grasshopper for a one-length win in the Grade 2, $500,000 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs. It was another 2 1/2 lengths back in third to Past the Point.

The Super Derby was one of five stakes worth a cumulative $1.3 million on what was the richest card in the history of Louisiana Downs. It was supported by four turf stakes, each worth $200,000.

Jazzy takes to dirt with solid victory in Gallant Bloom

ELMONT, N.Y. - Consider the dirt experiment with Jazzy a success.

After a successful career on turf, Jazzy showed she is equally adept on dirt, registering a workmanlike three-quarter-length score over Cuaba in Saturday's Grade 2, $150,000 Gallant Bloom Handicap at Belmont Park. It was a half-length back to Pussycat Doll in third.

Great Intentions and Princess Janie completed the order of finish.

General Jumbo wins in course-record time

FRANKLIN, Ky. – A horse that began his career in Britain, General Jumbo fittingly won Saturday's Grade 3, $200,000 Kentucky Cup Turf over the European-style turf course at Kentucky Downs.

In scoring in his first stakes win in 22 starts, General Jumbo stalked the pace in midpack early, as Starspangled Gator raced uncontested on the early lead. Never far behind the moderate pace, he began a three-wide advance on the final turn to tackle the leaders, and proved narrowly best in the stretch, defeating Fri Guy by a half-length.

Brass Hat beats Fairbanks in revival of Mass Cap

EAST BOSTON, Mass. – Brass Hat proved he likes Boston a whole lot more than Saratoga with a three-quarter-length victory over Fairbanks in the return of the $500,000 Massachusetts Handicap before 19,191 Saturday at Suffolk Downs.

After two dismal efforts behind Lawyer Ron in the Whitney Handicap and Woodward at the Spa in his previous two starts, Brass Hat needed to prove he was still capable of performing in major stakes. He ground his way past Fairbanks, the 3-5 favorite, under a confident Willie Martinez.

Any Given Saturday gets job done

ELMONT, N.Y. - It wasn't the cakewalk most thought it would be, but Any Given Saturday got in a successful prep for next month's Breeders' Cup Classic with a 2 1/2-length victory over Tasteyville in Saturday's $150,000 Brooklyn Handicap at Belmont Park.

Tasteyville, who set the early fractions, held second by three-quarters of a length over Helsinki. Awesome Twist and Sightseeing completed the order of finish in the Grade 2 race.
