Speak Easy Gal the clear speed in Dowager

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sometimes it’s difficult to figure out how a race will set up, let alone how it will end up. Picking a winner in the $125,000 Dowager Stakes on Sunday at Keeneland might be a bit tricky, too, but there seems to be little question as to how the 1 1/2-mile turf race will unfold.

Medabuck tries to remain perfect in Fanfreluche

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Medabuck will put her unblemished record on the line Sunday at Woodbine in the $150,000 Fanfreluche Stakes, and should be favored in the six-furlong sprint for Ontario-bred 2-year-old fillies.

Medabuck debuted against Ontario-sired company Aug. 27 for trainer Terry Jordan, who has solid numbers in nearly every category, except for first-time starters. She darted out to a clear lead in that five-furlong maiden special, and kept on going to score by three lengths in 58.83 seconds, a time which earned her a 56 Beyer Figure.

Zenyatta gets plenty of company in workout

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – It took two stablemates to work with Zenyatta at Hollywood Park on Friday and achieve the objectives that trainer John Shirreffs intended for the undefeated mare’s second-to-last workout before the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs on Nov. 6.

Zenyatta worked with Sarbonne and El Vino, two horses owned, like Zenyatta, by Jerry and Ann Moss. They served as a tag-team of sorts during the seven-furlong workout. Ridden by Mike Smith, Zenyatta was timed in 1:27.20, and she was the only horse to work that distance on Friday.

Stormy Lord looks safe at home in Mobil

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Stormy Lord, back on his home turf following a game effort in the Grade 3 Kent Stakes at Delaware Park, should rule the roost when he meets just four rivals here in Sunday’s $100,000 Mobil.

The Mobil, a late addition to the overnight stakes program, is a 1 1/8-mile turf race for Ontario-foaled 3-year-olds and just met the minimum requirement for making the cut with five starters.

Stormy Lord is a speed-oriented type who set the pace and hung on stubbornly before winding up a length back as the Kent’s third-place finisher over 1 1/8 miles on firm turf

Little to separate Rahy's Attorney and Sand Cove

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Election Day is Monday in Toronto, and polls have shown a virtual dead heat in the hotly contested mayor’s race between the Woodbine-friendly Rob Ford and George Smitherman. Saturday’s $125,000 Bunty Lawless Stakes is also shaping up as a tight race, between Rahy’s Attorney and Sand Cove, and Rahy’s Attorney may have a slight edge in the one-mile turf route for Ontario-sired runners.
