Total handle on U.S. Thoroughbred races in June was statistically even with the wagering total for the same month in June of 2019, according to figures distributed by Equibase on Tuesday, despite a sharp decline in races held during June this year and the loss of two weekend dates.

The New York Gaming Commission on Tuesday approved a draft rule that would allow the commission to force riders to serve suspensions at the track where an infraction occurred, regardless of the appeals process, according to several reports.

The membership of the Thoroughbred Owners of California has elected five new board members, with the incumbent Bob Baffert failing to generate enough votes to retain his seat on the board.

The new members of the board include Ryan Hanson, a trainer, and Lindsay LaRoche, an owner who will be one of the TOC’s Northern California representatives. Three incumbents – Ed Moger, Stephanie Hronis, and Rick Gold – were re-elected.

The elected members will all serve three-year terms. The TOC board has 15 members.

Del Mar is revamping its pick-six format this summer to mirror a long-standing structure currently in place at Santa Anita.

The track will have a 20-cent Rainbow pick six, with a portion of the pool placed into a carryover until there is a single winning ticket, or until a program is designated for a mandatory payout.

The format change was part of a lengthy discussion about the summer meeting from July 16 to Sept. 6 at the California Horse Racing Board’s monthly meeting on Wednesday. The racing board unanimously approved the track’s license.

Hank Zeitlin, the current head of a racetrack trade group, has been hired as the interim executive director of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority, the federally created non-profit company that is expected to oversee racing regulation beginning next year, the authority announced on Wednesday.
