New regulations announced by the Louisiana Racing Commission are set to go into place June 8.

The Louisiana Racing Commission has issued emergency approval to a new set of regulations that will allow a muscle-building drug, clenbuterol, that is strictly regulated in nearly every other major racing jurisdiction to be administered up to 72 hours prior to a race beginning on June 8.

Breeders' Cup, 1/ST Content renew international simulcast deal

Del Mar will host this year's Breeders' Cup in November.

Breeders’ Cup and 1/ST Content, the simulcast-marketing arm of 1/ST Racing, have reached new terms on a three-year deal that allows 1/ST to distribute the Breeders’ Cup races internationally along with wagering data, the two companies announced on Wednesday.

Under the new terms, 1/ST will provide in-running wagering capabilities to fixed-odds locations in international jurisdictions, the two companies said in a joint release. In-running wagering allows bettors to place wagers after the races have already begun.

Aqueduct runs race at wrong distance

Clement begins seven-day suspension for acepromazine positive

Trainer Christophe Clement has begun serving a seven-day suspension.

Long-time New York-based trainer, Christophe Clement, has begun serving a seven-day suspension after one of his horses tested positive for acepromazine, a sedative that is a controlled substance, after a race at Gulfstream Park in Florida in March.

Clement began serving the suspension on Thursday. It is the first suspension of his career, which began in 1991.

The filly who tested positive, Mizoula, finished second in an $89,000 maiden special weight at Gulfstream on March 3 as the 4.90-1 third choice. Mizoula was disqualified.

Total viewership of the Preakness Stakes broadcast on NBC and its associated streaming platforms averaged 5.5 million viewers and peaked at 7 million viewers, according to the network.

The total viewership figure – which includes those watching on traditional television and those watching on streaming services like Peacock – was up 7 percent over last year’s figure and was the highest for a Preakness broadcast since 2021, according to the network. The show ran from 4:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday until 7:30 p.m., with the race going to post just after 7 p.m.

New York grants approval for carryovers in pick 4 and pick 5

Thoroughbred and harness tracks in New York will now allow carryovers for their pick 4 and pick 5 wagers.

The New York State Gaming Commission on Monday approved a set of new rules that will allow Thoroughbred and Standardbred racetracks in the state to expand the carryover options for their pick 4 and pick 5 wagers.

The rules, which were passed unanimously at the Monday meeting, will give racetracks the ability to designate their pick 4 or pick 5 wagers as having a 100 percent carryover or a 75 percent carryover with a 25 percent consolation payout, the same rules in place for the pick 6 in the state.

NYRA announces Belmont Gold Cup winner will earn Melbourne Cup berth

The Belmont Gold Cup will be held at Saratoga on June 6, as part of the Belmont Racing Festival at Saratoga.

The winner of the Grade 2, $250,000 Belmont Gold Cup will receive an automatic berth into the Group 1 Melbourne Cup, the New York Racing Association and Victoria Racing Club announced jointly on Friday.

The Belmont Gold Cup, a two-mile turf race, is scheduled for June 6 at Saratoga. The Melbourne Cup, a two-mile race at Flemington Racecourse in Victoria, Australia is scheduled for Nov. 5. The purse of the Melbourne translates to $5.6 million in U.S. currency.
