The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission on Tuesday approved a full slate of 2015 dates for the state’s racetracks, including a bloc in September that required an agreement between Churchill Downs and Kentucky Downs to resolve a dispute that had led Churchill to threaten to withdraw its September dates requests.

NYRA pushes for uniform medication rules

The New York Racing Association has submitted a letter to state regulators in support of a long-delayed set of rules that would align New York’s medication regulations with many other states on the Eastern seaboard.

NYRA’s pledge of support comes about halfway through a 60-day public-comment period on the rules, which would allow for the use of 24 therapeutic medications by establishing threshold levels for the drugs. In substantially similar form, the same rules have already been adopted in Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, and Massachusetts.

Suffolk workers sue Massachusetts Gaming Commission

The unionized employees of the soon-to-be-shuttered Suffolk Downs are headed to the courtroom.

On Thursday, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, local 103, which represents 145 Suffolk employees, filed suit in Boston, arguing the Massachusetts Gaming Commission broke the law when it awarded the lone Boston-area casino license to Wynn Resorts instead of to Suffolk’s gaming partner, Mohegan Sun, on Sept. 16.

Group urges stronger restrictions on compounded medications

LEXINGTON, Ky.  – A racing advisory group is recommending that state regulators adopt rules that would require additional labeling of compounded medications and bar the use of any compounded medication that has an FDA-approved alternative, the group said Thursday.

NYRA to offer preview of new high-definition website

This weekend, the New York Racing Association will give fans a two-day preview of its new high-definition website, one that will be available to mobile-device users, as well as those who use a computer.

The website will offer live streaming of NYRA’s races in high definition from several different camera angles, including a head-on and stretch view. When fully up and running, the stretch camera will allow fans and owners to view last eighth of a mile of morning workouts over Belmont’s main track.
