New York Division of the Race Track Chaplaincy of America to honor Lisa and Kenny Troutt

The New York Division of the Race Track Chaplaincy of America will honor Lisa and Kenny Troutt on Wednesday in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for their dedication and commitment to backstretch workers on the New York Racing Association circuit. A brunch in their honor will be held at the Saratoga National Golf Club from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The Troutts are the owners of WinStar Farm and co-owners of the 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify.

C. Steven Duncker elected to Jockey Club board

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – C. Steven Duncker, a former partner in Goldman Sachs & Company and the former chairman of the New York Racing Association, has been elected to the board of stewards of The Jockey Club, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Duncker will fill the spot formerly held by the late Ogden Mills “Dinny” Phipps, who died in the spring of 2016. Phipps was the longtime chairman of The Jockey Club.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - After benefitting from fabulous weather the last three years, the New York Racing Association has felt the wrath of Mother Nature this summer at Saratoga.

All-sources handle through the first 22 days of the 40-day meet was $333,965,894, down 9.1 percent from last year’s figure of $367,492,480 through the same period of 2017, according to figures provided by the NYRA.

Jockey Club to explore buying distressed tracks, aiding small tracks

Jockey Club estimates 2019 foal crop at 21,500, the same as 2018

The Jockey Club is predicting a steady North American Thoroughbred foal crop in 2019.

The breed organization is projecting a registered foal crop of 21,500, the same as the 2018 foal-crop projection, which was announced at this time last year. The foal-crop projection is computed by using Reports of Mares Bred received to date for the 2018 breeding season, which were to be filed by Aug. 1.

Major renovation planned for National Museum of Racing

The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame plans to raise $20 million to fund a massive renovation of its exhibit area to create a “truly transforming” interactive experience, the Hall’s president, John Hendrickson, announced at the start of the Hall’s 2018 induction ceremony on Friday in Saratoga Springs.

The fundraising effort has been seeded by a $1 million donation from Hendrickson and his wife, Marylou Whitney, according to the Hall. Other pledges will be sought from members throughout the racing industry over the next several years, Hendrickson said.
