Bramlage, Farish voted in to Jockey Club Board of Stewards

The members of The Jockey Club have voted in Larry Bramlage and William S. Farish Jr. to the organization’s 10-person Board of Stewards, the organization announced Tuesday.

Bramlage, an orthopedic surgeon, and Farish, a member of the family that owns Lane’s End, will replace owner-breeders Barbara Banke and Michael O’Farrell Jr. on the board of stewards. Stewards serve four-year terms on the board.

California board may vote this week on 2021 date proposals

The 2021 California racing schedule could be finalized as soon as this week.

The California Horse Racing Board’s dates committee has scheduled a hearing for Wednesday via teleconference to discuss proposals recently submitted by some racetracks and the Thoroughbred Owners of California. On Thursday, the full racing board is scheduled to meet via teleconference and could act on racing dates, or defer the subject to a future meeting.

In past years, hearings on racing dates have started in late summer and sometimes been extended for months.

Elimination of claiming races suggested at Jockey Club Round Table

Belinda Stronach, Frank Stronach settle lawsuits

Frank Stronach, who owns Santa Anita, Gulfstream, Golden Gate Fields, Laurel, and Pimlico, among other racing assets, released a statement on Wednesday listing 10 policies his tracks will seek to implement as house rules under the broad heading of “medication reform.”

A series of lawsuits that laid bare a bitter dispute within the family of Frank Stronach have been settled, with Frank receiving control of the family’s agricultural interests and his daughter Belinda taking full control of the operating assets of The Stronach Group, the vertically integrated racing company.

Turf Paradise cancels 2020-2021 meeting

Total wagering on Thoroughbred races held at U.S. racetracks in July was up 16.6 percent, or $156 million, compared to the same month last year despite a significant decline in the number of races held during the month, according to figures released by Equibase on Wednesday.

Total handle in July was $1.1 billion, according to the figures, for a per-race average of $335,044. Last year in July, total handle was $942 million, for a per-race average of $251,802, a difference of 33 percent when compared to the average figure this July.

Jockey Club Round Table to be held as virtual event

The Jockey Club Round Table conference is now officially a virtual event.

On Tuesday, The Jockey Club announced that the annual conference will be streamed live on the organization’s website on Sunday, Aug. 16, rather than held at its usual location, the Gideon-Putnam Hotel in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The event also will be simulcast on TVG, The Jockey Club said.

Shannon Luce, a spokeswoman for the organization, said that speakers will appear on the feed from remote locations. An agenda for the Round Table has not yet been finalized, Luce said.
