CHRB approves safety plan for Los Alamitos

The California Horse Racing Board voted unanimously on Monday to approve a multi-point plan implemented by Los Alamitos for enhanced safety and greater veterinary oversight following a series of equine fatalities in recent months.

In an 80-minute meeting held via teleconference, the racing board voted 6-0 to permit Los Alamitos to continue its year-round evening meeting for Quarter Horses and lower-level Thoroughbreds without disruption.

Dutrow withdraws license application in Kentucky

Trainer Richard Dutrow was suspended for 10 years in 2011 after a series of horse medication violations.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Richard Dutrow, the trainer who began serving a 10-year ban handed down by New York regulators in 2013, withdrew his license application to the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission on Tuesday after a committee of the commission indicated it would not rule on the application.

The committee, meeting via teleconference due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, voted unanimously to allow Dutrow to withdraw the application after hearing from Dutrow, his attorney, and several witnesses speaking in support of the trainer.

Laurel puts restrictions on jockey colony

Jockey Florent Geroux tests positive for coronavirus

Florent Geroux is expected to be out of action for several months.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Florent Geroux, who most recently rode at Keeneland in Lexington, Belmont Park in New York, and Indiana Grand in Shelbyville, Ind., has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the top rider said in a social-media post Tuesday morning.

Geroux becomes the sixth rider in the last week to learn that he has tested positive for the virus. Geroux rode at Keeneland and was isolated there with other riders who had recently ridden at Indiana Grand, one of whom also tested positive.

Kentucky commission to consider Dutrow license application

Richard Dutrow, the New York-based former trainer who was banned in 2011 for 10 years by New York regulators, has filed a license application with the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission and will have the application discussed Tuesday in front of the commission’s License Review Committee.

According to Marc Guilfoil, executive director of the KHRC, Dutrow’s attorney has “been petitioning for four or five months” to have a license application reviewed by the commission.

“The committee is set up to meet, so he’s on it along with five other individuals,” Guilfoil said.
