FREE MUGATU

Trainer: John Terranova
Last race: Feb. 22, 8th
Finish: 2nd by 1 1/2

Gained in position and in lengths at every call, and received his second straight Beyer Figure top with a good finish in the mud. Will be third off the bench next time, and might benefit from a stretch-out to two turns.

Mike Smith brings Far Right up the rail to win his second straight stakes in the Southwest.

Far Right established himself as the clear leader of the 3-year-old contingent at Oaklawn Park on Sunday with his determined win in the Grade 3, $300,000 Southwest Stakes. It was his second consecutive stakes victory in Oaklawn’s series leading up to the Arkansas Derby, as Far Right won the track’s $150,000 Smarty Jones in January.

Goldfeder: What Was I Thinking – taking advantage of wagering menu

Life and racing can be unpredictable. One minute you’re up and things seem to be going your way, then everything changes and nothing is going your way.

My goal has always been to be the best horseplayer I can possibly be. I am comfortable in the knowledge that no matter how much I think I know about racing there is a lot more I don’t know. I prepare to the best of my ability only to find out that there is more.

War Story will likely make his next start in the Southwest Stakes.

I'm a Chatterbox and International Star won the weekend's 3-year-old stakes here, just like they did last month in the Silverbulletday and Lecomte. But unlike last month, I’m a Chatterbox went a little slower than International Star. International Star is based in Florida, so he’s off this list, and War Story, second in the Lecomte and the Risen Star, now sits atop it. Yockey’s Warrior was the sharpest maiden winner of the meet, but he started too late to make a stakes race here this meet.

Ocean Knight wins the Sam F. Davis on Jan. 31 at Tampa Bay Downs.

EL KABEIR continues to toughen out this harsh New York winter, squeezing in a workout Sunday at Belmont Park that keeps him on track for the Grade 3 Gotham at Aqueduct on March 7. His Withers conqueror, FAR FROM OVER, meanwhile, worked at Palm Beach Downs Sunday and still has the Gotham as an option. OCEAN KNIGHT, who also worked over the weekend, remains likely for the Gotham. CONDO COMMANDO kicked off her 3-year-old campaign with a solid effort winning the Busher and is targeting the Gazelle on April 4.

Dortmund is being pointed to the Santa Anita Derby on April 4.

While 2014 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner TEXAS RED rehabs at Premier Equine Center in Oakdale, Calif., the only changes among the local 3-year-olds are plans by two to ship out (see below).

GREY GIRL GONE
Trainer: Phil D’Amato
Last race: Feb. 20, 3rd
Finish: 6th by 7 1/2
Beyer: 55
A downhill turf sprint was not the preferred comeback spot for this filly. She set the pace into the lane before tiring. It was her first start in eight months; she should move way up next time out.
