Far From Over defeats El Kabeir in the Withers on Feb. 7. They are both pointing for the March 7 Gotham.

Rain and slop replaced cold and snow as training obstacles for 3-year-olds based in New York as they begin preparations for the Wood Memorial. But horses were just getting back to their routine after a few off days following the Gotham anyway.

WONDER GAL, third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, snuck her way into the entries, as she will run Friday in a New York-bred first-level allowance sprint as a prep for the Gazelle.

Brad Free's Horses to Watch for March 16

BLUEGRASS REWARD

Trainer: Doug O’Neill

Last race: March 12, 4th

Finish: 3rd by 4 3/4

Beyer: 81

Though disappointing as the favorite, he had excuses. He washed out, raced wide, and went evenly in a race dominated by forwardly placed runners. A 10-time winner, he was claimed by O’Neill from Dean Pederson. He can make amends vs. similar.

Trip Notes for March 14-15: Azeri, Rebel, Santa Margarita, Santa Ana and more...

Saturday, March 14

Oaklawn - Azeri (race 7)

COMMENT: This was supposed to be little more than a walk in the park for Untapable, last year’s 3-year-old filly champion who was making her first start of the season. However, we got a reminder again that they all get beat as Gold Medal Dancer had other plans and posted the upset. Coming off a third in the Grade 3 Bayakoa here where she dueled for the lead from the she was able to establish a clear early lead on a “good” (sealed) track.

Peck: Pick three play for Gulfstream on Sunday, March 15

Focusing in on a mid-card pick three:

Race 7

CITATIONAL (#8) has been training splendidly of late, presumably while wearing blinkers, which he'll race with for the first time today. He's a key for me in the opening leg of this pick three and the lone "A" in the field. Backups on "B" and "C" tickets will include WHITMAN'S POETRY (#3), PRIVATE RELATIONS (#4), HAY OATS AND WATER (#11), and THATCHER STREET (#12).
