We’ll be starting the day with a pick three that bookends a pair of most-likely winners in the first and third races while scatter-shotting the middle by using longer prices against some of the more logical plays:

The first two races Sunday see short fields with lots of question marks. Race 3 is a maiden race that looks fairly chalky as favorites LARRY BIRDSTONE and DERBY GLASS lead the way, so you may have to wait a bit before you can dive in with both feet. It may prove to be two turf races that provide you with some handicapping linchpins later on the card.

Race 5

Much of my attention will be on the cards at Gulfstream Park and Fair Grounds on Saturday, I do like the late double at Santa Anita on Saturday afternoon. I will try to get a single home in the featured event, the Tokyo City Cup, and score with one of my preferences in the nightcap.

Saturday is Florida Derby Day at Gulfstream. It is the biggest day of the year for that track, and management responded with a card befitting the occasion.

If you, like me, will be playing Saturday’s Gulfstream card, then you already know it will require commitment on a number of different levels.

Stamina will be necessary. It’s a 14 race card, with first post set for noon Eastern, and the last race, the Florida Derby, scheduled for 6:48 p.m.

Saturday’s Gulfstream card promises to be a fantastic afternoon of racing. Let’s try a 50-cent pick four play.
