Race 3:
Can Can Babe (#1)
Is projected to be racing close to the pace in a situation favoring the front-runners.
Should love the turnback to seven furlongs given that she may not really want two turns.
Will appreciate any residual moisture in the surface.
6-1 on ML

Friday’s opening-day card at Keeneland is an interesting one highlighted by a quality renewal of the Transylvania Stakes for 3-year-olds on the turf. I’ll get my feet wet at the meet by playing the late pick four, which encompasses races 7 through 10 and includes the Transylvania.
My strongest positions in the sequence are in a first-level allowance event in race 8 and the Transylvania in race 9. I’m singling Mutaraamy in race 8. It’s not exactly a daring single as Mutaraamy is the 9-5 favorite on the morning line, but I think he looks 3-5 in this spot.

Upon initially examining the past performances for Saturday’s Grade 2 Blue Grass Sakes at Keeneland, my gut feeling was that the absence of pace in the race could give Tapwrit an advantage over probable favorite McCraken, with Tapwrit seemingly being able to sit in midpack while McCraken would be rallying from the back, perhaps even from last.

Trainer: Kellyn Gorder
Last Race: April 1, 6th
Finish: 8th by 9 lengths
Beyer: 70
He made his first start in five months in an allowance sprint and hooked a wire-to-wire winner who covered six furlongs in 1:09.40. He would seem to have reason to move forward for the out and upon his return to route racing, as last year he placed in a pair of graded stakes at 1 1/8 miles.
Coax
Trainer: Mark Casse
Last race: April 1, 1st
Finish: 3rd by 3 1/4
Beyer: 41
Could only manage third as the favorite here but she was up against the race flow, as a lack of pace in the race resulted in a controlled tempo -- and a two-speed exacta; better setup can help her make amends next time.

Race 3:
Maria Got Even (#5)
Is confidently bumped up in class by Linda Rice, who is known for placing horses in realistic spots.
Beat a strong inside bias last time with a wide rally from the three-eighths pole to the wire.
Should get a fair pace to close into with three speeds drawn to her inside.
