Peck: Keeneland pick five for Saturday, April 8

It's a solid card at Keeneland on Saturday, and the pick-five sequence is comprised of the day’s best races.

RACE 6: YOCKEY'S WARRIOR impressed in that last win at Oaklawn. REDESDALE benefited from the race flow in his last, but he does have competitive figures, and he worked well in the interim. A. P. INDIAN gets back to seven furlongs and seems to land in a good spot in terms of pace; solid works for his seasonal debut. AWESOME SLEW cuts back and could be the main stretch threat if the pace is on the quick side.

Bernier: How I'll play Santa Anita on Saturday, April 8

There are several graded stakes Saturday at Santa Anita, highlighted by the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby and the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks. There are a few interesting runners scheduled to run, but a couple of them particularly interest me – one in the Grade 2 Royal Heroine and one in the Grade 3 Providencia.

Beer: Aqueduct early pick five for Saturday, April 8

Race 1: #2 Mineralogy has run well in both career starts and, with his early speed, figures to be hard to beat. I would make him the main use in the early pick five and then take backups with the well-bred Godolphin/McLaughlin firster, #6 Lucullan, and a little #1 Myakka River, who did little running in a strong field on debut but  is bred to improve with distance and experience.

Timeform US Aqueduct Horses in Focus for Saturday, April 8, 2017

Race 1:

Myakka River (#1)

Was green in debut, climbing early, before making a solid late run in the stretch.

His dam was Grade 1-placed at this distance.

DRF Formulator Fact: Over the past five years, Shug is 6 for 12 (50 percent) for a $4.27 ROI with 3-year-olds-and-up second-time starting maidens in dirt sprints coming off layoffs of 60 days or less.

5-2 on ML

 Race 3:

Moon Over a Beauty (#7)

BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, April 8, 2017 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

Visionary Tale, the “no brainer” part of our gimmick play last week, galloped home at $3.60, but our sneaky first timer, Etaki’s Gem, one-paced it all around to finish fourth so we didn’t quite score out. Fourteen other BreezeFigs maidens came home on top during the week, and three others on the cards won stakes. The winners came at Aqueduct (two), Fair Grounds (two), Gulfstream (three, including two BreezeFigs exactas), Laurel, Mahoning Valley, Oaklawn, Santa Anita (three) and Turfway.
