Three-year-old colt won’t be catching anyone by surprise upon his return after this runaway allowance win with a big figure provided an exciting follow-up to his determined debut win sprinting. Have to be careful with big wins like this over wet tracks, but he has been impressive in both starts and has the pedigree to go on.

Gets a positive trainer switch from Gary Contessa to Steve Asmussen.
Kendrick Carmouche should have him more forwardly placed, which has worked for him in the past.
Has had minor trouble in some recent starts and is in better form than it appears.

Finish: 6th by 18
Beyer: 51
Well back on the wire in this spot, but he didn't have a great chance here, as the favorite and eventual winner was the main speed and set a controlled pace en route to the victory; can make amends at a price in his return.

The race day ebbs and flows and you have to move with each wave as it takes you on your course. This past Saturday I followed my list and got off to a good start, only to hit some rough waters along the way. When my list horses don’t perform well enough to win then I have to overcome that issue with bankroll awareness. That is why I survived, ending the day close to where I started as opposed to suffering high losses. You don’t have to be a great handicapper to do well at this game but you do have to be aware of what you are doing as a bettor.

China Rider (#1)

She is projected to be clearly in front early in a race that does not feature any other speed types.

She is ridden by a rider that is acutely aware of pace scenarios like this.

Ran very well in her only turf start behind two of the best 2-year-old turf fillies in the country.

Yes, Sweet Loretta and Dancing Rags are Grade 1 winners already – and good for their connections, as they’re “made” fillies with a certain level of worth having already been attained. However, that’s neither here nor there in regard to how they’ll fare when returning from layoffs of more than five months today in the Grade 3 Beaumont Stakes (R8).
