Watchmaker: This Breeders' Cup all about Arrogate

Barbara D. Livingston
Arrogate was able to dominate the 2016 Travers Stakes after starting from the rail.

DEL MAR, Calif. – I was talking last weekend to a friend of long standing, an outstanding handicapper and avid racing historian, about the Breeders’ Cup. Almost immediately, the conversation turned to Arrogate, of whom we were of similar minds.

TimeformUS Pace Projector: Filly and Mare Sprint, Mile could favor closers

TimeformUS past performances include a Pace Projector for each race. This tool tries to predict the position of the field at the official first call of the race. The official first call is after a quarter-mile for races at less than a mile and after a half-mile for races at a mile or longer. The Pace Projector also attempts to predict when the pace might be fast or slow, based on the composition of the field along with the distance and surface of the race. With those things in mind, here are two races that appear most likely to be hotly contested and fast early.

Barbara D. Livingston
Unbeaten Bolt d'Oro will be a low-priced favorite in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup late pick four at Del Mar ends, of course, with the Classic, but begins in race 9 with the Mile, and continues with the Juvenile in race 10 and the Turf in race 11.

After breaking from the rail, she was a thoroughly professional debut winner in a six-furlong maiden special for 2-year-old fillies. The full sister to Grade 3 Ontario Fashion winner Moonlit Promise could be a good one.
