BreezeFigs Quick-Pix, for Saturday, March 30, 2019 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

Though she got beat by a head, no one who saw our Pick Gold Standard close like a shot in the last sixteenth will ignore her in the future. They pounded her down to favoritism and this one will go onto to live up to her name in the future, watch for her. There were five BreezeFigs maidens who won last week, but there were a lot of gimmick fillers along the way so you might have done well in that respect.

TimeformUS Aqueduct Horses in Focus for Friday, March 29, 2019

Race 2: Fair Regis (#5)

Won at this level two back and defeated the likely favorite Shimmering Moon in December.

Had a significant excuse when wide against a rail bias in her last start.

The Pace Projector is predicting a situation favoring horses on or near the lead, and she possesses the speed to sit close to front-runner Leah’s Dream.

Restoring Hope looks like key to a mint in Rainbow 6

Barbara D. Livingston
Restoring Hope, shown training last June at Belmont Park, goes out for high-percentage trainer Jason Servis in race 11 on Saturday.

Saturday at Gulfstream Park is a special day for many horseplayers, and not just because it’s Florida Derby Day.

The Rainbow 6 is subject to a mandatory disbursement, and with an estimated $3 million of dead money in the rollover jackpot – assuming it isn’t swept by a solo winner Thursday or Friday – bettors will be taking their best cracks at taking down a piece of a massive pool. Racing began Thursday at the South Florida track with nearly $2.5 million in the jackpot.

Weekend Warrior for Saturday, March 30: Picks for Florida Derby, Pan-American Stakes, San Carlos Stakes

Lauren King/Coglianese Photos
Bourbon War enters the Florida Derby off a runner-up finish in the Fountain of Youth Stakes on March 2.

One can safely say with no hyperbole that Saturday is a day of major stakes racing.

Gulfstream Park offers a stakes-packed card topped by a critical prep for the Kentucky Derby – the Grade 1, $1 million Florida Derby. Santa Anita gets back in full swing (and it’s terrific to be able to say that) with a program that includes four graded stakes races, headed by two Grade 1, $400,000 events – the Beholder, and the Frank E. Kilroe Mile. And on the other side of the world, the $12 million Dubai World Cup will be decided along with an armful of important undercard races.

Bernier: How I'll play Gulfstream for Sunday, March 24

Below are a few horses at a variety of prices to consider Sunday at Gulfstream Park.

RACE 3
He may not be a superstar, but BAD BOY E. J. (8) has run some decent races at this maiden $20,000 claiming level. The late kick he possesses is strong for a group like this, and there appears to be enough pace signed on to accentuate his finish. At 6-1 on the morning line, Bad Boy E. J. is worth considering a win wager on, and, at the very least, underneath in exotics.

Race 2: Leap to Glory (#1)
Ran deceptively well last time when passing horses to be third after he was unwisely rated.
Matched the favorite’s last-out TimeformUS Speed Figure when earning a 101 in his victory two back.
The Pace Projector is predicting that he will be on the lead in a situation favoring the front-runner.
