Free: Turf sprints and longshots Sunday at Santa Anita

Handicapping notes and upset candidates for Sunday at Santa Anita, where four of the nine races are hillside turf sprints including three stakes.

Race 1 – Incredibly Lucky (7) has worked well for her debut against a soft field of Cal-bred maiden-50 fillies and mares. ’Lucky has speed according to National Turf workout analyst Andy Harrington, while up-in-class Out of Control (11) also has speed. At 10-1, she is a must use.

Race 7: Ragtime Suzy (#7)

The Pace Projector is predicting a situation favoring the leaders, and she figures to be stalking outside.

Tom Bush has had some recent success with horses coming off very long layoffs.

Is ambitiously placed for her return with a top jockey named to ride.

Bernier: How I'll play Santa Anita on Saturday, March 30, 2019

It’s nice to be racing at Santa Anita again, especially on a Saturday filled with stakes action. I’m going to focus on a midcard pick-three sequence comprised of three graded stakes races: the Grade 1 Kilroe Mile, Grade 2 San Carlos, and Grade 3 Santa Ana.

RACE 5 – KILROE MILE

Free: Price plays Saturday at Santa Anita

While four graded stakes attract the most attention Saturday at Santa Anita, the undercard races might offer the best wagering value.

Race 1 – Top choice comebacker Princess Roi (3) routes as if she will like the shorter distance of this N1X downhill sprint. However, the recent maiden win by Ficanas (5) was visually impressive and highly rated. At 6-1 in the program, Ficanas is worth backing.

Race 4: Bon Raison (#8)

The Pace Projector is predicting a situation favoring horses on or near the lead, and he should be sitting right off front-runner Aristocratic.

Gets significant class relief after facing far tougher competition in his last two starts.

Ran deceptively well last time after going extremely wide around the far turn.
