Desultory efforts by our Pix except a backdoor one was the result last week with a decent BreezeFigs contender Semper Fidelis who’d failed to impress in three previous starts hammered home at Parx at $9. He was one of a dozen BreezeFigs 3-year-olds who broke their maidens last week along with another one at Parx and solos at Belmont, Finger Lakes, Los Alamitos and Mountaineer. The 2-year-olds offered a much different result—a dozen broke their maidens, and seven of them came at Gulfstream.
A salty Saturday of North American racing, from Belmont and Laurel through Churchill Downs and out to Santa Anita. And that’s just North America on Saturday. Sunday in France brings the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and five attendant Group 1s as the season turns into the homestretch toward the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar.
Awesome Again

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
Other than a shocker by a starter we did not care for at Churchill, and a trifecta play by another at Golden Gate, it was not a banner Pix last week. However, BreezeFigs maidens overall had a smashing week, with 14 other 2-year-old winners and a half-dozen 3-year-olds coming home on top.

Pity Medina Spirit didn’t make the trip, but the Pennsylvania Derby rematch between Hot Rod Charlie and Midnight Bourbon still entices as the main event on the first Saturday of fall racing in 2021. My guess is Midnight Bourbon has made more progress through the summer than Hot Rod Charlie – but it’s not quite a strong enough guess to make this week’s three plays.
