Last week’s Pick was a mess—unruly horse in the post parade and another left at the gate and only at the last minute were we saved by our gimmick horse Mr Rum Runner who got up to complete a nice exacta.

Last week’s Pix were a case of keys paying off even though none of them won. In the first race, they completed the trifecta and superfecta, and in the seventh race there were exacta, trifecta and superfecta payoffs, if you played the right.

Weekend GamePlan for Sept. 11, 2021: Picks for Calumet Turf Cup, Ky. Downs Turf Sprint, Canadian Derby

Debra A. Roma
Channel Cat finishes fourth, beaten 2 1/4 lengths, in the Bowling Green. He should not be pressured as much on the pace of the Calumet Turf Cup.

Saratoga and Del Mar are done. How much of an in-between, late-summer racing weekend is this? We’re going to rural Kentucky and rural Alberta, Canada to find stakes worth playing.

Obviously, Kentucky Downs takes center stage Saturday; The card there is strong and interesting, top to bottom. I like price horses Catch a Bid in the Ladies Sprint and Summer in Saratoga in the Ladies Turf, but neither quite made the cut.
