Jockey Calvin Borel arrested for DUI

Calvin Borel took off his mounts at Ellis Park on Sunday after being arrrested Saturday night in Indiana.

Three-time Kentucky Derby-winning jockey Calvin Borel was arrested and jailed Saturday night in Evansville, Ind., for driving under the influence. Borel, 44, took off his Sunday mounts at Ellis Park in nearby Henderson, Ky., where he has been riding this summer.

California horsemen's group gains support in battle for recognition

Blind Luck is still under consideration for a start against males in the Pacific Classic.

DEL MAR, Calif. – Blind Luck will not be sent to New York or New Jersey for a major stakes next weekend, and her participation in the $1 million Pacific Classic next Sunday is not a  certainty, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said on Saturday.

The champion 3-year-old filly of 2010, Blind Luck will be considered for the Pacific Classic or may skip that race in favor of the Grade 1 Lady’s Secret Stakes at Santa Anita on Oct. 1.

New York judge rules against out-of-competition testing

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – A New York Supreme Court judge has ruled that laws that allow regulators in New York to conduct out-of-competition drug testing should be thrown out, calling the rules “so lacking in reason as to require nullification in their entirety,” according to the Aug. 15 ruling.

Canadian Hall of Fame induction ceremony honors Sam-Son legacy

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario – Sam-Son Farm was squarely in the spotlight at this year’s Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame induction ceremonies as the late Tammy Samuel-Balaz, trainer Mark Frostad, and the champion filly Dancethruthedawn all were honored Thursday evening at the Mississauga Convention Centre.

A crowd of approximately 275 was on hand for the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame’s annual fund-raiser which featured dinner, silent and live auctions, a tribute to Northern Dancer on the 50th anniversary of his birth, and the induction ceremonies.
