The California Horse Racing Board will begin testing for levels of cobalt in post-race urine and blood samples from racehorses in an attempt to determine whether rumors surrounding the administration of the naturally occurring element are true.

For the second straight night and the 10^th time since the beginning of February, live racing has been canceled Wednesday at Charles Town because of harsh winter weather.

The track will remain open for simulcasting with live racing scheduled to resume Thursday with first post time of 7 p.m. Eastern.

ARCADIA, Calif. – The $750,000 Santa Anita Handicap on Saturday will have a smaller field than expected, with the early week defections of the speedy Appealing Tale and the longshot Majestic Harbor.

Led by Mucho Macho Man and Will Take Charge, the first two finishers of the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita last November, the race has a projected field of seven. One is a former claimer who has overachieved in the last 60 days.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The mutuel field, the 24th or “all others” option, closed in its familiar spot as favorite in Pool 3 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which closed Saturday following a three-day run. The field closed at 3-1, followed by Cairo Prince (9-1), Top Billing (11-1), Honor Code (11-1), Candy Boy (12-1), Shared Belief (15-1), Bayern (17-1), Tapiture (17-1), and Strong Mandate (18-1).

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Havana developed a small quarter crack on his right front foot on Saturday morning, forcing trainer Todd Pletcher to scratch the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile runner-up from the Grade 2 Swale later that afternoon at Gulfstream Park.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Gulfstream Park has announced a new policy whereby the track will provide bettors with more information regarding stewards’ decisions following rider objections or inquiries.

Track announcer Larry Collmus will provide a detailed explanation for each ruling while a replay of the infractions is highlighted and played from pan and head-on angles throughout the facility. A statement by the stewards will also be posted on the track’s website following each decision.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Gulfstream Park will race a minimum of three days a week during the 2014-15 fiscal  year, according to the track’s final dates amendment filed with the Florida Division of Parimutuel Wagering on Friday.  Gulfstream, Calder Race Course, and all other parimutuel facilities in the state had until 5 p.m. Eastern on Friday to amend their original dates applications for the period beginning July 1.     

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - There was one winning ticket sold on Friday’s pick six at Aqueduct, returning $333,055. The winning ticket was played through the Elite Turf Club advance-deposit wagering platform, and the bettor invested approximately $27,300, according to the New York Racing Association.

There was a two-day carryover of $105,348 after no winning tickets were sold on the pick six last Sunday and Monday. An additional $399,499 was wagered into the pool on Friday.

CANDYMAN E ran down a loose-on-the-lead frontrunner in the Toboggan, winning in fast time, and is an older classy runner with 10 wins from 21 starts; likely not of the same class as uncoupled stablemate STAPPING GROOM, but the latter missed a start this month with a foot injury and might not be ready for his best. Regardless, the price will be better on CANDYMAN E, who is 5-2 on the line, compared to even money on STRAPPING GROOM.
