Shared Belief is world's top-rated horse in IFHA poll

Shared Belief wins the Santa Anita Handicap on Saturday at Santa Anita Park.

Shared Belief is the top-rated horse in the world after his romp in the Santa Anita Handicap, according to the first 2015 World’s Best Racehorse rankings released Thursday by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities.

Shared Belief’s Santa Anita Handicap was rated 125, one point better than Able Friend’s victory in the Group 1 Steward’s Cup in Hong Kong.

The rankings are performance ratings for a single race compiled several times annually by a panel of international racing executives from major jurisdictions.

Take Charge Brandi doing well after procedure

Champion Take Charge Brandi on Thursday had a pin placed in her right knee to accelerate the healing process from a non-displaced bone chip, trainer D. Wayne Lukas said Friday. The trainer said the procedure was successful and there was no cartilage damage.

Take Charge Brandi is in Kentucky at Rood and Riddle equine hospital and will likely return to Oaklawn on Saturday or Sunday, said Lukas. The trainer said she would have 30 days of stall rest, then 30 days of hand walking before resuming training May 15.

Rainbow 6 hit for $1,079,444

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The Rainbow 6 was solved Thursday at Gulfstream Park, the one correct ticket worth $1,079,444.

The Rainbow 6 had gone unhit since Feb. 12. The winning combination included two favorites, two second choices, and the longshots Silver Lucky Q (19-1) and Renombre (25-1). According to the mutual department, the winning ticket was purchased through the Portland, Ore., Hub for $336.

Constitution won't run in Dubai World Cup

Constitution had some soreness in a shin following his most recent workout, canceling plans to ship to Dubai for the $10 million Dubai World Cup.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. -  WinStar Farm reported Thursday that Donn Handicap winner Constitution will not participate in the $10 million Dubai World Cup as originally planned.

Constitution, who set the pace and then held off defending champion Lea to win the Grade 1 Donn, worked five furlongs in 1:01.21 at Palm Beach Downs last Saturday. The following morning, trainer Todd Pletcher said he discovered some heat and soreness in Constitution’s left shin.

High cobalt levels found in four of Smith's horses

All of the horses trained by Kenny Smith at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., have been placed on the stewards’ list after four of his runners tested for high levels of the naturally occurring mineral cobalt, according to the track’s state steward.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Ami’s Flatter, who finished second to Carpe Diem in last Saturday’s Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby, has been installed as the early 5-2 favorite for the 156th running of the Queen’s Plate at Woodbine on July 5.

The 88th edition of the Queen’s Plate winter book, compiled by Ron Gierkink and Alex Campbell of Daily Racing Form and Woodbine’s Keith McCalmont, offers hypothetical odds on all 125 3-year-olds nominated to the Canadian Triple Crown. The nominees include 83 colts, 27 geldings, and 15 fillies.
