Implicated wins the Pebbles on Saturday while making only her second start of the year.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – While trainer Chad Brown typically puts his turf horses in hibernation for the winter, Implicated will be an exception to the rule.

Implicated was making only her second start of the year when she won Saturday’s Grade 3 Pebbles Stakes at Aqueduct, so she will be kept in training for at least another start or two this winter.

While Brown does not have a specific race picked out, Implicated would be eligible to face 3-year-old fillies again in the Tropical Park Oaks on Dec. 23 at Gulfstream Park.

On Sunday, Signator drew clear to a 2 1/2-length victory in a race that will likely have him stakes-bound for his next start. Though the horse is headed to South Florida this week to continue training, trainer Shug McGaughey mentioned the $150,000 Queens County Stakes on Dec. 31 at Aqueduct as a potential spot for his stakes debut.

International contingents make splash at Fasig-Tipton and Keeneland sales

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The November breeding stock sales typically bring a global marketplace to Lexington by providing the opportunity to acquire high-end racemares and broodmares, including some with internationally known families.

That global appeal has been evident in the past few weeks. Despite a weak yen against the American dollar, a number of prominent Japanese outfits made the annual trip to Kentucky and are returning home with seven-figure purchases. Other international buyers, particularly from Australia, are playing a role in the marketplace, as well.

Trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. maintains he is comfortable training White Abarrio up to that race and said over the weekend that the horse would remain based at Santa Anita until such time as he would ship to Saudi Arabia, which may not be until mid-February.

Big Data won a first-level allowance in July at Gulfstream and the effort catapulted him to a win in the Super Derby in September at Louisiana Downs. Trainer Michael Lerman said Thursday he had looked at a few recent stakes options for the horse, but the decision was made to put Big Data away and focus on 2024.

Chancery Way has speed from the rail in Betty Grable

Shane Micheli/Vassar Photography
Chancery Way has five career wins, all at Northern California tracks, and finished third in her only try at Del Mar over turf.

While an exceptional trio of California-bred fillies and mares were winning graded stakes this season, others have sought opportunities in statebred races, including eight fillies and mares in the $100,000 Betty Grable Stakes on Sunday at Del Mar.

Chancery Way, a multiple stakes winner based in Northern California, meets a balanced field of Southern California runners in the seven-furlong Betty Grable. Although the field does not include the statebred elite, Chancery Way has her work cut out from the inside post against main rivals Carmen Miranda and Glorious Spring.
