After he wraps up what could be a record-setting meet at Tampa Bay Downs in six weeks, jockey Samuel Marin will be based at Delaware Park this summer, his agent Mike Moran said Sunday.
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Full Serrano, winner of the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, is part of a field of eight for the Grade 3, $500,000 Oaklawn Mile that will be held on the Arkansas Derby undercard Saturday. First post for the 14-race card is 11:35 a.m. Central.
Full Serrano will be making his first start since finishing third in the Pegasus World Cup won by Skippylongstocking. Antonio Fresu has the mount on Full Serrano from post 5 for trainer John Sadler.
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Explora is part of a field of six for the Grade 2, $1 million Fantasy, a Kentucky Oaks points race that will be showcased on Friday’s 12-race card at Oaklawn Park. The Fantasy will be supported by the $250,000 Matron, which drew millionaire Haulin Ice.
Explora won the Grade 3, $750,000 Honeybee at Oaklawn earlier this month. She will start from post 6 in the Fantasy. Trainer Bob Baffert has given the mount to Flavien Prat.
OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Perhaps a half-furlong will make the difference when Fireballin likely tries to wire the field in a first-level allowance race for New York-breds going six furlongs, the feature on Sunday’s eight-race card at Aqueduct.
Fireballin, a 4-year-old gelding trained by Mike Maker, couldn’t see out the 6 1/2 furlongs when he finished third, beaten a half-length in this same condition on Feb. 28. At least that was a marked improvement from his previous start in which he was eased after dueling on the lead here on Feb. 5.
NEW ORLEANS – There are trainers who have put together strong Fair Grounds seasons, and then there is Joseph “Bobby” Felks, who enters closing day of this meet having sent out 11 starters. His record: 8-1-2.
Nine Part was going to be favored to win the Costa Rising Stakes on Saturday’s card, and Felks wraps up this memorable several months by running his stable star, Synthetic, on Sunday.
OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Trainer Danny Gargan believes Snowyte was always cut out to be a stakes horse. He hopes her allowance victory last month at Gulfstream Park was the first step toward accomplishing that goal.
On March 29, Snowyte will return to stakes company for the first time since she finished eighth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies in 2024 when she runs in the $175,000 Top Flight Stakes at Aqueduct.
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Trainer Patrick Biancone couldn’t be more excited about getting his multiple stakes winner Lennilu’s 3-year-old campaign started Sunday at Gulfstream Park. What has tempered that enthusiasm a bit has been the recent weather, which has dumped inches upon inches of rain over the local area this past week.
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The daughters of three Grade 1-winning mares will meet in Sunday’s eighth race, an entry-level allowance led by Gin’s Beach Road and Untamed Moment.
The race, which drew seven, is one of two allowances on the card for fillies and mares. The seventh race is restricted to Arkansas-breds and serves as a stepping-stone to the $150,000 Natural State Breeders’ Stakes on April 30. The allowances both will be run at a mile in a configuration that ends at the sixteenth pole at Oaklawn.
ARCADIA, Calif. – Six in a row for Man O Rose?
The gelding puts a five-race win streak on the line Sunday at Santa Anita, where he is favored in the $100,000 Sensational Star Stakes. The Cal-bred turf sprint is about 6 1/2 furlongs on the hill, a course Man O Rose has not raced over since autumn.
“It doesn’t matter,” trainer Jeff Mullins said.
He is right. It does not matter.
OZONE PARK, N.Y. – The New York Racing Association and Chester Racecourse in England announced a partnership where two races run during Chester’s Boodles May Festival will serve as automatic qualifiers to a pair of stakes run during the first week of June at Saratoga.
The winner of the 13-furlong Ormonde Stakes, run May 7 at Chester, will earn an automatic berth – including entry, starter, and shipping fees – into the Grade 2, $250,000 Belmont Gold Cup, a two-mile turf race run June 4 at Saratoga.
