Wicked Whisper could give Asmussen another double

ELMONT, N.Y. – Eight years ago, trainer Steve Asmussen won the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes at Belmont Park with My Miss Aurelia, who came back to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs and become the champion 2-year-old filly of 2011.
Asmussen will try to complete that same double with Wicked Whisper, who on Sunday won the Grade 1, $400,000 Frizette by 2 3/4 lengths to earn her spot in the starting gate for the $2 million Juvenile Fillies on Nov. at Santa Anita.

Wicked Whisper got loose on the lead under Joel Rosario in the Frizette and she ran away from Frank’s Rockette when that one tried to come to her at the eighth pole. Wicked Whisper ran a mile in 1:35.92 and earned an 87 Beyer Speed Figure.
“To step out to a mile and look that good finishing up is very exciting,” Asmussen said. “Her pedigree suggested she’d be able to handle it.”
Asmussen said that if Wicked Whisper comes out of the race in good order, she would be shipped to Santa Anita on Oct. 14.
