Tiz the Law to stand at Coolmore's Ashford Stud

The international Coolmore operation has acquired the breeding rights to Tiz the Law, winner of last Saturday's Belmont Stakes, and will stand the colt at its Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky., upon his eventual retirement from racing, the operation announced Thursday.
New York-bred Tiz the Law, who will continue to race in the colors of Sackatoga Stable, is from the first crop of Constitution. That Tapit stallion finished second to Triple Crown winner American Pharoah by earnings on last year's freshman sire list and currently leads the class by earnings in its sophomore season. American Pharoah and fellow Triple Crown winner Justify both are based at Ashford. Tiz the Law will join them as the fifth American classic winner on the roster, which also includes 2000 Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus and 2010 Preakness Stakes winner Lookin At Lucky.
“Tiz the Law is the outstanding colt of his generation, so we are obviously delighted he’ll be coming here,” Coolmore America manager Dermot Ryan said in a press release. “From Day 1, when he broke his maiden at Saratoga, we have been watching him closely, and he has everything one looks for in a stallion prospect. We are grateful to Jack Knowlton and his partners in Sackatoga Stable for letting us be a part of such an exciting horse, and also to [trainer] Barclay Tagg, Robin Smullen, and their team who have done a tremendous job with him. He’s a Grade 1-winning juvenile and is now a classic winner. Combined with his near-perfect race record, he’s very good-looking and is a very well-bred individual."

Tiz the Law has won 5 of 6 career starts under Tagg's tutelage, including all three outings this year in the Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes, Grade 1 Florida Derby, and last Saturday's Belmont Stakes, which, due to the coronavirus pandemic, was contested at a shortened distance of 1 1/8 miles as the first leg of the 2020 Triple Crown. Tiz the Law also won the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes last year as a juvenile and finished a close third in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes. The colt is now targeting the Grade 1 Travers Stakes on Aug. 8 at Saratoga in preparation for the rest of the rescheduled Triple Crown – the Sept. 5 Kentucky Derby and Oct. 3 Preakness Stakes.
"It is an honor that [Tiz the Law] will become a part of the world’s largest breeding operation of Thoroughbred racehorses," Sackatoga's Knowlton said in the release. "We are excited to see what Tiz the Law has in store on the track for the remainder of his 3-year-old year and beyond, and then look forward to his career as a stallion at Ashford."
Tiz the Law is out of the Grade 2-winning Tiznow mare Tizfiz, also the dam of stakes-placed Awestruck. Tizfiz is a full sister to Grade 3 winner and young sire Fury Kapcori and a half-sister to stakes winner Dixie Commander. It is the extended family of 1997 Horse of the Year Favorite Trick, Venezuelan champion Cacciatora, multiple Grade 1 winner Moonshine Memories, and multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire Favorite Tale.
