HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. -- The first words out of trainer Antonio Sano’s mouth upon answering his phone a short while after Simplification turned in his penultimate breeze for the 2022 Kentucky Derby Friday morning at Gulfstream Park were, “Hello Mike, how are you?”  The next four, without hesitation, were “So happy! So happy!” And happy Sano should have been after watching Simplification breeze a super-easy five furlongs under Junior Alvarado in 59.42 followed by a strong and extended gallop-out. Daily Racing Form timed the Fountain of Youth winner going six furlongs in 1:11.95 and seven-eighths in 1:24.10 before easing but not pulling up after a mile in 1:37.52 over a track that was on the quick side here Friday. “Junior told me, ‘Antonio, I don’t make nothing, the horse just run and run and run on his own,' ” said Sano, who added, “He did it all on his own. Very, very easy. The more distance, the better for this horse.”  Sano did have a bit of an anxious moment, as Simplification was finally pulling up after a full mile and a quarter, nearing the half-mile marker, when he inadvertently banged into another horse standing several feet off the inner rail. “It was scary. It was my own horse, Logico, that he hit,” Sano said. “But everything is okay.” :: KENTUCKY DERBY 2022: Derby Watch, point standings, prep schedule, news, and more Although Alvarado worked Simplification here for a second straight week, his regular jockey, Jose Ortiz, has now been confirmed for the Derby.  Sano said Simplification would have his final Derby work, an easy five-furlong breeze, here next Friday before shipping out to Louisville that evening and would only gallop at Churchill Downs the final week before the race.
