The Minnesota Thoroughbred Association yearling sale posted one of the strongest renewals in its history Monday, featuring a record gross, near-record average sale price, and a $50,000 Midshipman filly drawing the highest bid.
The catalog for the 2016 Michigan Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association online mixed sale is now available online, with 35 horses on offer.
The Thoroughbred portion of the Ruidoso Downs New Mexico-bred Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse sale posted declines in gross on August 20, but saw an increase in average price with the help of a $100,000 Attila’s Storm colt that topped the sale. The yearling-exclusive session saw 74 yearlings sell for total receipts of $677,800, down 11 percent from last year’s Thoroughbred session which featured both yearling and mixed offerings and reported 93 horses selling for a total of $759,000.
A disconnect between buyer and seller expectations held back the chance for overall gains at the Canadian Thoroughbred Society Manitoba Division yearling sale, but the 50 percent of horses that did change hands brought the sale an increased average price, led by a $13,000 (Canadian) Going Commando colt. Thirteen horses sold during the August 21 auction, grossing $76,100 (Canadian). That marked a 27 percent decrease from the 2015 renewal when 19 horses brought $104,050.
