Tapit, War Front continue to dominate

Tapit and War Front have been the commercial leaders at the Keeneland September yearling sale for the last several years and don’t appear ready to relinquish the reins this year.

As he has since 2012, Tapit led the 2015 edition of the bellwether sale by gross sales, with 32 yearlings sold for $16,860,000. War Front finished second by gross, with 21 sold for $12,615,000. War Front did lead by average price at $600,714, beating out Tapit at $526,876.

Tapit led by average sale price in 2014, with War Front third on the list. The two were second and third behind Galileo in 2013. Tapit and War Front have sired the sale-toppers or co-toppers each year since 2013.

Tapit, who stands at Gainesway Farm in Lexington, Ky., has been North America’s leading general sire the past two years and again leads that list by a wide margin. He is represented by 53 yearlings in this year’s Keeneland September catalog. Leading juvenile sire War Front, who stands at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Ky., has 33.
