Red Mile: To Dream On gets Gingras in the bike for Bluegrass; Thursday Analysis

Lisa Photo To Dream On will be favored in Saturday's $354,450 Merrie Annabelle at the Meadowlands.

Grand Circuit racing at the Red Mile in Lexington, Kentucky gets underway on Thursday (Sept. 27) with four divisions of the Bluegrass series for 2-year-old trotting fillies. Divisional leader To Dream On leads the 26 entrants and will head behind the gate with a new pilot at the helm.

Normally driven by David Miller and originally entered with the veteran, the Jimmy Takter-trained miss gets a switch to Yannick Gingras in the $89,250 Bluegrass. Miller will take the assignment behind Mistery Woman, an undefeated Donato Hanover-sired filly co-owned by his wife Misty Miller.

Takter quickly scooped up Gingras, who has been driving some of his top stock, for the drive on Thursday and possibly going forward.

“It looks like David has a good one and there will probably be a future conflict,” said Takter, who admitted Gingras has the inside track on keeping the drive in the future.

To Dream On suffered her first defeat in six career starts in the $448,050 Peaceful Way final at Mohawk Racetrack earlier this month. Many blamed the narrow neck-long defeat on a fast :27 4/5 third quarter which left her susceptible in the late stages of the mile.

As the 9-5 morning line favorite against six others, To Dream On should get back on the winning track in the Bluegrass. Takter, who called To Dream On the “best trotting filly I’ve ever trained” after her first baby races, has not lost any faith in his pupil.

“Absolutely, without a doubt,” said Takter on whether she is the best he has ever trained. “She’s a good one.”

To Dream On’s division of the Bluegrass is slated as race 9 on the 10-race program that features a $10,000 guaranteed pick four pool in race 6.

Post time on Thursday is 7:00 pm.
