Q B One has debut postponed until fall
DEL MAR, Calif. – The first graded stakes races of the season for California 2-year-olds will be run this week at Del Mar, but the highly anticipated debut of Beholder’s first foal has been postponed until fall.
Q B One, the Uncle Mo 2-year-old colt and first foal from four-time champion Beholder, has been taken out of racetrack training and will not debut this summer as originally planned.
“I’m going to back off and take a little time with him,” trainer Richard Mandella said. “He’s just a big, growthy colt, and I think it was catching up with him. His last couple works [at Del Mar] weren’t as good as they were” at Santa Anita.
Mandella said Q B One, who “just gets bigger and bigger,” will remain in light training with Julie Adair-Stack at Peacefield Farm in Temecula. Mandella said Q B One “will be out of ‘race training’ for a month. We’ll back off, and have him for the fall.”
Meanwhile, a pair of Grade 2 stakes for 2-year-olds will be run this week. The Sorrento Stakes for fillies, race 8 on Friday, includes September Secret and My Girl Red. The Best Pal Stakes, race 6 on Saturday, includes Wesley Ward-trained Roderick, who arrived at Del Mar early this week. His rivals in the Best Pal include Weston and Herd Immunity.
