Procrastination's next start delayed until winter
DEL MAR, Calif. – Procrastination, second in the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Del Mar, has been sidelined.
Trainer Michael McCarthy said Sunday that Procrastination “will get a fall break.”
McCarthy did not describe why Procrastination is out of training, but said the situation was “nothing too serious” and that the filly will return to training for the Santa Anita winter meeting.
Owned by the Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners syndicate, Procrastination won her debut in a maiden special weight race by eight lengths on July 4 at Los Alamitos. In the Sorrento Stakes at six furlongs, Procrastination was the 7-10 favorite. She set the pace, but was caught in the final sixteenth by Vegas Magic.
Vegas Magic, trained by Doug O’Neill, is a leading candidate for the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante at seven furlongs on Sept. 10.

Other possible starters in the $300,000 Debutante are And Tell Me Nolies, Chismosa, Fast and Shiny, Home Cooking, Ice Dancing, and Justique.
Ice Dancing was third to And Tell Me Nolies in a maiden special weight race in her debut at 6 1/2 furlongs on Aug. 14.
“I only had her half-ready,” trainer Richard Mandella said Sunday. “She came out of the race great.”
Justique, winner of a maiden special weight race in her debut July 31, worked a half-mile in 48.40 seconds on Saturday. Justique was briefly ill after her maiden race win and had her first workout since that race Saturday.
Trainer John Shirreffs said Justique will have another workout on Labor Day weekend that will determine whether she starts in the Del Mar Debutante.
