Harness: This year's Lexington Selected Yearling Sale concludes

In an interview with editor Derick Giwner before the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, Steve Stewart of Hunterton Sales Agency predicted that Zoetry would lead this year's final session on Thursday night, and he was proved prescient as she sold to Armitage Farm for $250,000.

By Ohio-based sire Volstead, Zoetry, who sold as HIP 728, is the first foal out of the Walner mare Walner Payton, who earned $799,118 and took a mark of 1:51 4/5 during her racing career.

"If she's not the highest price on the last day, somebody got a very, very good buy. And the reason why I say that is because she's just a very, very special filly. She's 100% just like Walner Payton," Stewart said in that preview piece from last Thursday's edition of Harness Digest.

While comparing year-over-year for the sale won't be an exact science as the decision was made to go from five days in recent history to four sessions in 2026, the average went up from $68,417 a year ago to $81,320 this year, and the gross was basically flat from $60,891,000 for 890 horses sold in 2025 to $60,665,000 for 746 yearlings in 2026.

Regional sales in Ontario and Indiana are ahead next weekend with the Standardbred Horse Sale in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, set to take place the first week in November.
