Mott still has decision to make on Modernist's next race

Like every trainer in the country, particularly those with Kentucky Derby prospects, trainer Bill Mott is trying to find a path forward for Modernist without having all that data he’ll need regarding potential prep races, or when racing will return to some semblance of normalcy.

“To even try to plan for anything beyond tomorrow is a little bit ridiculous right now,” Mott said.
Modernist finished third in the Louisiana Derby on Saturday, and on Tuesday returned to Payson Park in Florida, where Mott is currently based. Mott said he “wouldn’t rule out” the Arkansas Derby, now postponed to May 2, for a next start for Modernist, “but we’ll let him get over this race, train him, and let him decide.”
