Hall of Fame trainer Ron McAnally will be honored with the Laffit Pincay, Jr., Award for service to racing in a ceremony at Del Mar on Aug. 27, the track announced earlier this week. McAnally, 90, is in the midst of his 74th summer at Del Mar, and has a small stable at the meeting. The Pincay Award, which is scheduled to be presented by the 75-year-old retired Hall of Fame jockey, was introduced in 2004 and recognizes individuals who have served racing with integrity, dedication and distinction. :: DRF's Del Mar headquarters – Stakes schedule, previews, recaps, past performances, and more The award has been presented to jockeys, trainers, owners, breeders, track officials and horsemen’s organizations. The 2021 award was given to Greg Ferraro, a noted veterinarian and the current chairman of the California Horse Racing Board. McAnally, who has been honored as champion trainer on three occasions, has attended Del Mar’s summer meeting since 1948, initially working as a hot walker. McAnally had his first winner as a trainer at Hollywood Park in 1958 and ranks fourth on Del Mar’s all-time list of wins by a trainer with 447.
