There obviously are many times to overlook flaws in longshots who are attempting to beat questionable favorites. Such occasions will occur in races Friday and Saturday at Pimlico as well elsewhere around the country. But it’s hard to make a case for such a strategy in the Black-Eyed Susan and Preakness Stakes on Friday and Saturday. Land Over Sea and Go Maggie Go, coming off excellent races in the Kentucky Oaks two weeks ago, stand out over the their Black-Eyed Susan rivals, and similarly, Nyquist and Exaggerator appear rock-solid as the choices in the Preakness. So, how to play the Black-Eyed Susan/Preakness double? Well, one could use the four horses mentioned above to varying degrees, but doing so will yield a small return relative to the cost of using the four combinations. So, I’m going to single Land Over Sea (3) in the Black-Eyed Susan, based on her body of work and experience edge over Go Maggie Go, and will use her in a $7 double over Nyquist and a $3 double over Exaggerator. My Black-Eyed Susan/Preakness doubles are as follows: $7 double: 3/3 (Land Over Sea/Nyquist) $3 double: 3/5 (Land Over Sea/Exaggerator) :: BLACK-EYED SUSAN: Buy pps, watch Friday's card live
