Kentucky Derby: Who's hot, who's not for week of July 22, 2020

WHO’S HOT
Country Grammer and Caracaro, who finished one-two on opening day of Saratoga’s meet last week in the Peter Pan, both were added to the Derby Watch top 20. Country Grammer is 30-1 on the line of Daily Racing Form’s Marty McGee for the Kentucky Derby on Sept. 5, with Caracaro at 50-1. Authentic, winner of the Haskell last Saturday at Monmouth, is now 8-1 after being 10-1 a week ago, and Haskell runner-up Ny Traffic is down to 30-1 from last week’s 50-1. Owing to the significant support he received in last week’s Derby Future Wager, Uncle Chuck is down to 10-1 on McGee’s line after being 15-1 last week.
WHO’S NOT
Modernist was dropped from the list owing to a poor performance in the Peter Pan, and Pneumatic was removed to make way for Caracaro; Pneumatic’s next start had to be adjusted owing to the cancellation of the West Virginia Derby, which had been scheduled for Aug. 1.

ON THE BUBBLE
Several of the horses on the list are barely hanging on, but the number of candidates who could replace them is shrinking, raising the real possibility that this year’s Derby field could fall short of the maximum of 20 runners. The next points-scoring race is the Shared Belief on Aug. 1 at Del Mar, when Thousand Words will make his final bid to earn a Derby berth.
