Kentucky Derby: Who's hot, who's not for May 6, 2020
WHO’S HOT
Nadal, who won the faster division of the Arkansas Derby last Saturday, is the new favorite for the Sept. 5 Kentucky Derby on the line of Marty McGee of Daily Racing Form. He is now 7-2 after being the co-second choice last week at 5-1. Charlatan, who won the other division of the Arkansas Derby, is now the co-second choice at 4-1 with the previous favorite, Tiz the Law. There are two newcomers to the list – Basin, who was second behind Charlatan, and Finnick the Fierce, third behind Nadal. Both are 50-1 on McGee’s line. King Guillermo, second to Nadal, is down to 20-1 after being 30-1 a week ago.

WHO’S NOT
Storm the Court was dropped after his disappointing effort behind Nadal last week, and Shivaree – who didn’t do anything wrong – was removed owing to being judged inferior to Basin and Finnick the Fierce by the Derby Watch board of directors. Since there are now three horses at 4-1 or less, prices on several horses who did not run last week needed to be raised for the line to balance. Authentic, the co-second choice last week at 5-1, ticked up to 6-1 and is now the fourth choice on McGee’s line. Honor A. P. and Maxfield both went up to 15-1 from 12-1, and Sole Volante moved up to 20-1 from 15-1. Wells Bayou, fifth behind Nadal, is now 30-1 after being 12-1 a week ago.
ON THE BUBBLE
Mischevious Alex was among the horses who were considered for inclusion this week. The list should remain stable until at least the Matt Winn, the next points-scoring race, scheduled for May 23 at Churchill Downs.
