Kentucky Derby: Who's hot, who's not for March 25, 2020
WHO’S HOT
Wells Bayou and Ny Traffic earned 100 and 40 points, respectively, for their one-two finish in the Louisiana Derby on Saturday and have moved onto the Derby Watch top 20 list. Wells Bayou impressed Daily Racing Form’s Marty McGee enough to make him the co-fifth choice at 12-1 for the Kentucky Derby, now scheduled for Sept. 5. Ny Traffic is 50-1 on McGee’s line.

WHO’S NOT
Mischevious Alex and Royal Act were both dropped from the list. Mischevious Alex didn’t do anything wrong; it’s just that the Derby Watch executive committee has had concerns regarding his two-turn ability, and he became the odd horse out when a spot was needed in order to bring two newcomers onto the list. Royal Act was dropped following a disappointing effort in the Louisiana Derby. Enforceable, 15-1 last week, is now 30-1 on McGee’s line after he finished fifth in the Louisiana Derby. Modernist, third in the Louisiana Derby, is also now 30-1 after being 20-1 a week ago. McGee made one final tweak to his prices in order to balance his line, raising Charlatan to 10-1 from last week’s 8-1; he remains the fourth choice.
ON THE BUBBLE
The Florida Derby on Saturday is the only points-scoring race of the weekend. Like the Louisiana Derby, it is worth 170 points overall, with 100 for first and 40 for second. Those not currently in the top 20 who can move onto the Derby Watch list with a strong performance include As Seen On Tv and Candy Tycoon.
