Kentucky Derby: Who's hot, who's not for July 8, 2020
WHO’S HOT
Uncle Chuck has raced just twice, but has impressed to the extent in those races – including his victory last Saturday in the Los Alamitos Derby – that he is now the fifth choice, at 12-1, on the line of Daily Racing Form’s Marty McGee for the Kentucky Derby on Sept. 5. He was 20-1 a week ago. Fellow late developer Creed, who won an allowance race last week at Belmont for his second straight victory, was lowered from 50-1 to 30-1.

WHO’S NOT
Cafe Pharoah is still on the list owing to his topping the points standings for the Japan Road to the Derby series, but he belly-flopped in the series’s final leg, the Japan Dirt Derby, on Wednesday. He remains 30-1. More should be known about his status by next week. Owing to Uncle Chuck having his odds lowered, McGee had to slightly raise the prices on two well-regarded Derby runners. Tiz the Law is now 8-5 after being 7-5 a week ago, and Authentic is now 10-1 after being 8-1 last week.
ON THE BUBBLE
The filly Swiss Skydiver is the most notable horse who could move into the Derby Watch top 20, as she is scheduled to take on males Saturday in the Blue Grass Stakes. Blue Grass entrant Rushie also is knocking on the door. There are five Derby Watch top 20 members in the Blue Grass, so the race result could provide significant alterations to the current list. Danon Pharaoh, who won the Japan Dirt Derby, would move to the top of that series’s invitees if Cafe Pharoah’s connections decide not to come to Louisville.
