Kentucky Derby: Who's hot, who's not for Feb. 21, 2018

WHO’S HOT

There are four newcomers to this week’s Derby Watch top 20, plus a new favorite on the future line set by Mike Watchmaker, Daily Racing Form’s national handicapper. Bravazo and Snapper Sinclair, the one-two finishers in the Risen Star, are new to the list, as are My Boy Jack, the Southwest winner, and the impressive maiden winner Justify. It was Justify who made the greatest impression on Watchmaker. He has him at 20-1 on his line. Bravazo and My Boy Jack are both 25-1, and Snapper Sinclair is 30-1. Watchmaker now has Good Magic favored at 6-1, flip-flopping his price with Bolt d’Oro, who is now the co-second choice at 8-1.

WHO’S NOT

To make room for the newcomers, four horses – Enticed, Mourinho, Principe Guilherme, and Tiz Mischief – all were dropped from the list. Both Mourinho and Principe Guilherme were removed after running in stakes races last weekend. Enticed and Tiz Mischief were muscled out by runners adjudged by the Derby Watch executive committee to be better prospects at this point. In addition to Bolt d’Oro, a number of horses had their prices raised by Watchmaker, most notably Instilled Regard, who is now 25-1 after being 12-1 prior to the Risen Star, in which he finished fourth.

ON THE BUBBLE

Firenze Fire, Gold Town, and Vino Rosso just missed the cut, along with Enticed and Tiz Mischief. This coming weekend is unusual in that no preps with Derby points will be run, so – barring an unforeseen injury – there should be little to no movement over the next week.
