Kentucky Derby: Who's hot, who's not for Feb. 17, 2021
WHO’S HOT
Mandaloun, winner of the Risen Star Stakes last Saturday, was the most-significant market mover. After being 30-1 last week on the line of Marty McGee of Daily Racing Form, he is down to 10-1, making him the fourth choice for the Kentucky Derby on May 1. That strengthened even further the position of his trainer, Brad Cox, who now has three of the top six choices, including favored Essential Quality as well as Caddo River, the co-fifth choice at 12-1. Proxy, the Risen Star runner-up, and Rombauer, who won the El Camino Real Derby, are both down to 20-1 after being 30-1 a week ago. The overall lineup of the Derby Watch top 20 remained unchanged; there are no newcomers this week.

WHO’S NOT
Midnight Bourbon, third in the Risen Star, saw his price rise to 30-1 from last week’s 20-1, and Senor Buscador, 30-1 a week ago, is now the longest price on the top 20 list at 50-1. Also, to make his line balance in light of the move with Mandaloun, McGee raised the prices on Caddo River (from 10-1 to 12-1) and Candy Man Rocket (20-1 to 30-1).
ON THE BUBBLE
The postponement of the Southwest for the second straight weekend means there are no Derby preps in the United States this weekend. The Japan Road to the Derby series has its penultimate race, the one-mile Hyacinth, on Sunday at Tokyo Racecourse.
