Kentucky Derby: Who's hot, who's not for Aug. 12, 2020

WHO’S HOT
Tiz the Law’s emphatic victory in the Runhappy Travers Stakes on Saturday caused Marty McGee of Daily Racing Form to drive his price down to 6-5 from last week’s 2-1 for the Kentucky Derby on Sept. 5. If Tiz the Law starts at less than 9-5, he would be the shortest-priced favorite since Point Given in 2001. Tiz the Law was even-money in the final Derby Future Wager, which closed Sunday. Caracaro, second in the Travers, is down to 20-1 from last week’s 50-1. With a number of horses departing the Derby trail, six horses were added this week – Attachment Rate, Finnick the Fierce, Money Moves, Necker Island, Pneumatic, and Storm the Court – though not all are certain to run. All are 50-1 shots on McGee’s line.

WHO’S NOT
Owing to unsatisfactory performances in either the Travers or Runhappy Ellis Park Derby last weekend, six horses – Country Grammer, Dean Martini, Shared Sense, Shivaree, South Bend, and Uncle Chuck – are off the Derby trail and were removed from the list.
ON THE BUBBLE
The Pegasus Stakes on Saturday at Monmouth is the final points-scoring race on the road to the Derby. Admission to the maximum 20-horse field will be based on points, though there is the very real possibility fewer than 20 will enter this year, which would mark the first time that has happened since 2003. Based on the current points list, Winning Impression would be the next one in if his connections decide to press on following consecutive seventh-place finishes in the Indiana and Ellis Park derbies.
