WHO’S HOT Chief Wallabee, in blinkers, had a super workout over the Churchill Downs main track on Monday which created a lot of buzz and in turn prompted Daily Racing Form’s David Aragona to lower the Florida Derby third-place finisher to 8-1 from 10-1 on his pre-draw morning-line. The Puma, the Tampa Bay Derby winner and Florida Derby runner-up, was raised to 10-1 from 8-1. The Puma had his strongest move in a while last weekend at Gulfstream Park prior to shipping to Churchill. The Brad Cox trio of Commandment, Further Ado, and Fulleffort continue to make a good impression in their early-morning gallops at Churchill. WHO’S NOT As expected, trainer Chad Brown has withdrawn both Ottinho and Iron Honor from Derby consideration, with the caveat of changing his mind if there are key defections by Saturday, entry day. Ottinho, a well-beaten second in the Blue Grass, will either run in the Peter Pan on May 9 at Aqueduct or the Preakness on May 16 at Laurel Park. Iron Honor, the Grade 3 Gotham winner who finished seventh in the Grade 2 Wood Memorial, will target the Preakness. :: KENTUCKY DERBY 2026: Top contenders, point standings, prep schedule, news, and more Nearly and Bravaro, the one-two finishers from the Grade 3 Holy Bull, were removed from Derby consideration with Nearly going to the farm for a break and Bravaro heading to the Mike Lee, a New York-bred stakes on June 3 at Saratoga. ON THE BUBBLE An entry-day decision by the connections of Chip Honcho – who is in the field if his connections want to run – will determine which horses end up on the also-eligible list. If Chip Honcho does go, those expected to enter as also-eligibles include Litmus Test, most recently seventh in the Arkansas Derby; Great White, most recently fifth in the Blue Grass; and Ocelli, still a maiden following a third-place finish in the Wood Memorial. Robusta, second to Potente in the San Felipe but seventh in the Santa Anita Derby, may also possibly be entered. All of the above assumes Stark Contrast doesn’t enter the Kentucky Derby.
