Kentucky Derby: Who's hot, who's not for April 14, 2021
WHO’S HOT
Super Stock, the upset winner of the Arkansas Derby, and Hidden Stash, 20th based on points on Daily Racing’s Form’s list of potential starters in the Kentucky Derby on May 1, are the two newcomers to the Derby Watch top 20. Super Stock is 20-1 on the line set by DRF’s Marty McGee. Hidden Stash is 50-1. Now that all the preps have been run, the two criteria to make the list are who has enough points, and who among them is intended for the race. Nothing else matters. The unbeaten Essential Quality, last year’s Eclipse Award-winning 2-year-old male, is the 2-1 favorite on McGee’s line, down from 5-2 a week ago. Known Agenda (was 10-1, now 8-1) and Midnight Bourbon (was 20-1, now 15-1) both saw their prices cut after last week’s results.

WHO’S NOT
Hozier, in the Arkansas Derby, and Proxy, in the Lexington, both disappointed in races last Saturday and were removed from the list. Concert Tour, who had been the second choice on McGee’s line at 9-2 last week, is up to 10-1, making him the fifth choice, after finishing third as the favorite in the Arkansas Derby while suffering his first loss. Arkansas Derby runner-up Caddo River, 30-1 last week, is now 50-1, joining eight others McGee has at that price.
ON THE BUBBLE
Dream Shake is next up on the list, though he’s uncertain to run (see this week’s Derby Watch feature for more). After him is O Besos, who definitely would run if he can get in, and it’s looking increasingly likely that that will happen. Get Her Number, who also would run if he can get in, is next in line.
