Domestic Product
Colt by Practical Joke – Goods and Services, by Paynter
Bred in Kentucky by Klaravich Stables
Derby Watch member Domestic Product took another step forward for owner-breeder Klaravich Stables and trainer Chad Brown last weekend, winning the Grade 3 Tampa Bay Derby. The colt is continuing big things for a lauded sireline.
Five-time reigning leading sire Into Mischief is the sire of 2020 Kentucky Derby victor Authentic and 2021 promoted winner Mandaloun. He is the sire of a leading candidate for this Derby in Timberlake, and two of his sons have prominent hopefuls, as Goldencents is the sire of Grade 3 Southwest winner Mystik Dan, and Practical Joke is the sire of Domestic Product.
Practical Joke was a standout around one turn, with Grade 1 wins in the Hopeful, Champagne, and H. Allen Jerkens Memorial. He could stretch his abilities somewhat at a high level, with third-place finishes around two turns in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Haskell Invitational in addition to other creditable efforts.

Domestic Product is the 25th graded stakes winner for Practical Joke. A shuttle stallion to Chile, he is the sire of champions El Oriente, Richi, and Soqui in that country, as well as major Grade 1 winners Berberisca, Ionosfera, Joke Sisi, and Mbagnick. All have won at a mile or longer, with Berberisca and Richi winning at 1 1/4 miles.
In the United States, Practical Joke’s accomplishments are more eclectic. He is, unsurprisingly, the sire of millionaire graded stakes-winning sprinters Skelly and Tejano Twist; additional graded stakes-winning dirt sprinters Becky’s Joker, Girl With a Dream, and Little Vic; and Chocolate Gelato, winner of the Grade 1 Frizette at a one-turn mile.
He also is the sire of Practical Move, whose multiple graded wins around two turns on dirt included the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby; Wit, a graded stakes-winning dirt sprinter who has run well going longer on turf, including a Grade 1 placing at nine furlongs; and Money Supply, who won last month’s Grade 3 Mineshaft at 1 1/16 miles.
Unraced Goods and Services is the dam of two winners from as many starters. She is out of stakes winner Indian Legend, making her a half-sister to stakes winner Kenda. Indian Legend is a full sister to Grade 3 winner Cherokee Queen.
